Career Exploration students in the Pre-Engineering program learned the basics of 3D parametric modeling using Autodesk Inventor. Parametric modeling is the foundation of modern Drafting. All branches of Engineering begin with a form of parametric modeling, whether it's the use of Revit for Architecture, Fusion 360 for Mechanical Engineering, or Civil 3D for Civil Engineering. Learning parametric modeling is the first major step in a student's engineering education. James Perkey, sophomore from Wyoming East High School is demonstrating this process.👏🏼

Mrs. Sherry Younce is one of the Cosmetology Instructors at the Wyoming County Career and Technical Center. She has been an instructor since 2006. She teaches Hairstyling 2 and Esthetics. Mrs. Younce has been a licensed cosmetologist for 44 years. She is licensed in WV and KY. She taught at East Kentucky Beauty School in Pikeville KY for three years and she owned her own salon for 26 years. Mrs. Younce is very effective in teaching student skills and the practice of running a business. The students in Cosmetology at the WCCTC are fortunate to have Mrs. Younce.👏🏼❤️

The Wyoming County Career and Technical Center along with Wyoming East would like to congratulate Gabe Riling on signing with Boyd Machinery in Beckley. Gabe has been selected for the CAT THINK BIG PROGRAM. This program offers a paid internship and tuition reimbursement while earning an Associate Degree at Illinois Central College in Peoria, IL with the ability to work towards a bachelors degree through other programs sponsored by Boyd Machinery. We would also like to thank Ron Sorrell, Beckley Branch Manager and Greg Morgan, Beckley Service Manager for making these amazing opportunities available for our future workforce. 👏🏼⚙️

Mrs. Kelly Laxton is currently serving as a substitute instructor in the ProStart and Baking & Pastries program at the Wyoming County Career and Technical Center. She is a 1995 graduate of Oceana High School. She received her Associates in Culinary Arts in 2000 from WV Northern Community College and her Regents degree in 2006 from West Liberty University. Mrs. Laxton served as ProStart instructor at the WCCTC from 2010-2018. She has worked in various bakeries and also as an Instructor at WV Northern College from 2004-2007 and Pastry Instructor at Mountain State University from 2008-2010. She is currently the owner of The Cakery and also Rae’s Diner in Oceana. Students in her classroom truly benefit from her experience, education and expertise in the culinary field.🧑🍳

Westside students along with 6th-8th grade students from Baileysville, Huff, Oceana Middle and Road Branch were given the opportunity to participate in activities at the booths for each program. The activities were led by current WCCTC students.

Matthew Mitchell is new to the CTC this year, but not to his position as teacher of the Options Pathways Program. He held this position for two years at Westside High School, and brings a unique skill set to this position due to his past ministerial training, kindness, and counseling skills. Mr. Mitchell works to help students on their individual learning paths and reach their goals as they work toward graduation and certificate in their trade.
Matt graduated from WV State University in 2000 with his secondary teaching degree and from Nazarene Seminary in 2009 with his Masters of Divinity. He has served Wyoming County Schools in several areas as needed and has been an asset to our school district. Welcome to WCCTC, Mr. Mitchell. 👏🏼

The Nail Technician program at the Wyoming County Career and Technical Center completed Valentine’s Day nail wheels and shadow boxes. Mrs. Jessica Clay took top honors in the competition with her nail art and shadow box designs!💅

The county championship games have been rescheduled for Monday, February 20, 2023. Tip-off for the girls championship game is 5:30, and boys will tip-off at 7:30. Mullens Middle is hosting the tournament.🏀🏀
